A word of praise... and a dumb question.

I've been hunting for a forum much like ELF for a while. I really love the overall simplicity and ease of use for elf. I'm working on incorporating it into my site, as I'm trying to keep things simple, elf is ideal for me, and my users.

The only thing I haven't quite been able to figure out, is forum administration. It's not that big of a deal, but I saw that there's some kind of javascript administration menu (or something like that, I haven't gotten a real chance to sit down and study the code). I just can't figure out how to access it. I know you can generate an md5sum of a password, and then include that in the config.php.. Is a control panel one of the non-finished features? Or am I just being dense?

But regardless, Nikke, I really appreciate the time you took to write ELF, and it's provided a great, minimal, base forum for me to hack _exactly_ what I need into it, without having all this uneeded crap. In the words of Albert Einstein,"Everything should be as simple as possible, but no simpler".

You can find the administration panel by adding ?act=login after the address to your forum. E.g. host.com/forum/?act=login

But you are right, the administration is partially unfinished in the stable version. (The language config is still not included.) The development version (which has been right around the corner for repackaging way too long) has it, along with some other tweaks, included.

Further more than the administration panel, logging in as an admin allows you to modify, delete, stick, lock and moderate the forum.

As soon as I can fix the quoting to work properly (completely rewritten) along with a migration tool, a new version will be released. If you would like to receive an e-mail when this miracle happens, please e-mail me your address to nikc [at] iki [dot] fi.

And thank you for your praise. I'm glad you like Elfbb.

Brilliant, thanks a bunch. Here in the next few days, I'll start looking at the code, and try to make some docs for you to package the next release with. If you want to give me an idea of what you want, I'll tailor them to your needs, otherwise, I'll just make a generic install doc, walking through all the installation instructions, md5 password generation, configuration options, and a note about the url cases. Also, I'm willing to provide Japanese and Korean localizations if that's something you'd be at all interested in.

Wow! Thanks a lot!

No specific wishes, I'll take what you create, because that will quite surely be written after a subjective first hand experience. I might make modifications later though :-)

But as a note, there is no need to document creating the md5 hash. I will package the forum with a default password in the future and the admin-panel auto generates hashes when changing the password.

Localizations are also welcome, but only if you are willing to keep them up to date, which can be quite the hassle as they are subject to change and additions at any point.

I'll try to complete the todo-list (see the roadmap thread elfbb.nikc.org/?exp=37&pg=0 ) by the end of this year, or atleast make it significantly shorter. After that, I don't know what, if anything, will happen to ELF.
